White SheetsBelieve it or not, it has officially been spring for a little more than one month. Depending on the weather patterns in your neck of the woods, you’re either still sporting gloves and ski jackets, or you’ve pulled out the flip flops and tee-shirts. Whenever spring temperatures envelope your neighborhood, you may want to consider taking part in The Annual Spring Sheet Swap-Out. Your five-step action plan follows:

1. Purchase attractive, spring-weight sheets for every bed in your home (if you don’t already own said sheets). Spring-weight bed sheets are usually a lightweight cotton and they’ll help keep you and your family comfortable during the warm spring and summer nights ahead.

Tip: If you purchase new sheets, their zippered storage bags have several clever uses. Hang onto them if you plan to use them right away. Otherwise, discard them so you don’t create unnecessary clutter in your home.

2. Then launder the mattress pads, pillow shams, bed skirts, and fall/winter flannel sheets, pillow cases, and comforters (or duvet covers) for every bed in your home.

3. Store the clean flannel sheets, pillow cases, and comforter materials in whatever way best resonates with your version of organizational bliss. I recommend that the bedding for each bedroom be stored in its own labeled bag in a place of your choosing, folded on its own shelf in the linen closet, or stored on a closet shelf in each bedroom.

4. If you haven’t done so recently, now is the time to turn every mattress in your home. Enlist a family member or friend to get in on the action. Four hands make this task so much easier than making this a solo experience.

Tip: Take a moment to add this task to your electronic calendar so that going forward, it happens once every three months.

5. Lastly, make up all of the beds in your home using your clean mattress pads, pillow shams, bed skirts, and fresh spring-weight sheets.

Sweet dreams – and happy spring!
