Guggenheim MuseumHave you noticed that there’s a “day” devoted to just about everything?! From National Doughnut Day every June to the observance of Pi Day on March 14, there’s always at least one subject in our wide world to celebrate and observe. And tomorrow is no different.

International Museum Day is May 18, and it’s a perfect opportunity for you to explore at least one of the museums in your neck of the woods. As we all know, a little advance planning goes a long way. So before you put on some comfy shoes and head to a nearby museum, confirm whether your local library offers free museum passes. As you’re tying those shoes, think outside the box and plan a stop at your local historical society or your city’s archives.

And if the local museum scene is non-existent or does not appeal to you, consider visiting some nationally or internationally renowned museums without taking off your bedroom slippers. Museum websites often offer a wealth of online resources, including virtual tours, articles of historical interest, image galleries, portraits, and fun factoids for those who may never set foot in the actual museums.

To find some interesting, wacky, big, or small museums that spark your interest, hop online for an easy search. You may wish to visit the International Council of Museums and the American Association of Museums while you’re sleuthing all things museums.

Wishing you joyful museum adventures and ongoing opportunities for learning – on International Museum Day and every day.
