Part Two of a Three-Part Series on Spring Cleaning

RakeNow that spring is here, it’s time to spruce up your backyard and garage. Perhaps one, some, or all of the following ideas will support your version of outdoor organizational and logistical bliss this spring.

1. Wash your windows. Apparently there are right ways and wrong ways to wash windows (which you’ll find if you do a quick Internet search), and we know you’ll find the technique that works best for you. It’s amazing how much brighter your house will seem just by getting rid of the dusty haze that accumulated this winter.

2. Clean out your gutters. “April showers bring May flowers,” and plenty of water to your property. Protect the interior of your home by making sure that the exterior is in great shape, and that the gutters are free and clear and ready to handle all those spring showers. The hubster recently added some gutter extensions, and you may wish to do the same. One glance at your gutters will confirm if these are needed.

3. Sweep out your garage and give it a thorough organizational overhaul. The garage, like the kitchen, tends to be a place where things seem to get piled. Take some time to weed out that which you don’t need. Share items with your family, friends, or neighbors. Discard that which probably shouldn’t be reused. It’s okay to be thrilled about using the adage, “when in doubt, throw it out [recycle it].”

4. Scrub your patio furniture and then put it to good use. It’s finally time to take the patio furniture out of hiding and set it up in the backyard. Remove all cobwebs and dust. We’ve found that it works best to wipe down each piece with a wet cloth before applying your cleaning solution. After they sparkle, enjoy your spruced up items along with a cool glass of lemonade.

5. Prepare your garden for spring and summer delights. Do the obvious yard clean-up activities like leaf removal. Then skim through the websites and books that are filled with gardening tips. We’ll leave the details to the green thumb experts – and simply encourage you to consider your gardening adventures part of your outdoor spring cleaning extravaganza.

We’d love to hear your outdoor spring cleaning tips and ideas!
