Gerbera daisy“My Favorite Things” is a lovely show tune from the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, The Sound of Music. Its lyrics conjure up images of raindrops on roses, bright copper kettles, and crisp apple strudels. And while I do like these things, I especially appreciate this song because of how it highlights the importance of having an attitude of gratitude for the simplest things in life, and for the big stuff, too.

This spring, I mentioned the daily gratitude list that a dear friend taught me to keep. I will forever be grateful to her for her example. When we make it a point to keep a daily gratitude list, we make it a point to seek out the good in all that we do and experience, wherever we are. Gratitude lists are one of many ways that we acknowledge the good in our experiences.

And in keeping with my desire to live a gratitude-filled life, I’ve found that my version of organizational bliss helps me to focus on the present and the good that’s all around. For example, when clean laundry is readily available, when morning routines are peaceful, and when meals are prepared in advance, I’m not rushing around trying to cram too many to dos into short stints of time. As a result, the sense of order and grace I experience allows me to fully experience the good that’s all around. Today, this weekend, and every day, express gratitude for your favorite things. You’ll be glad you did!

Has being organized helped you more fully embrace an attitude of gratitude? If so, what tips do you have for others?
